Providence lands Brandon Austin

Ed Cooley and Providence College landed a big-time recruit for the Class of 2013 Monday night, as Brandon Austin (Imhotep Charter/Philadelphia, PA) tweeted that he would join the Friars.

"PROVIDENCE COLLEGE!!!" tweeted Austin from his personal account.

The 6-foot-6 Austin had previously committed to Penn State, but decided to reopen his recruitment in July. He picked PC over UConn and Texas.

"It was a hard decision," Austin told Philly.com's Matt Breen. Austin went on to tell Breen that Cooley "said I'll be his No. 1 guy from the moment I step on campus."

Even if Ricky Ledo jumps to the NBA following this season, PC still has a talented backcourt for next season with Austin matched up with Bryce Cotton, Josh Fortune, and a hopefully healthy, Kris Dunn. LaDontae Henton and Carson Desrosiers, who will be eligible next season following a transfer from Wake Forest, will man the middle for the Friars.
Austin is a top-75 player in the 2013 class. He joins small forward Rodney Bullock (Kecoughtan High/Hampton, VA) as part of the incoming freshman class for Cooley. Bullock committed in October.
