Kendall Jackson's Senior Season - season begins

November 28, 2012 Kendall Jackson

Hello world, it’s Suffield Academy’s Kendall Jackson back again and excited and anxious for the season to finally start.

During the month of November, I focused on getting ready for the season and preparing for fall term exams, which went pretty well. I was in the weight room three times a week and continued to get shots up. My goal for all my workouts is to try to do everything at game speed. During the Thanksgiving break I was able to go back home to California. I have really missed home and my family, so it was great to get back to the Bay Area. While I was there I got to see my old high school team (Bishop O’Dowd) play, which got me juiced for my season to start.  After a week in California, I was ready to come back to Connecticut to get down to business.

We had tryouts for two days and we have our finalized team now. The last two days were pretty tough mentally as we added a number of plays for both defense and offense.

So far, we have challenged each other in practice, which is making us better everyday. Coach [Jeff] Depelteau likes to run a lot of competitive drills at practice, which will get us ready for game situations.  We are a little undersized, but we play hard and work harder. Hopefully this will give us an edge against all of the teams on our tough schedule.

We have a scrimmage on Wednesday at Taft, and we have our home opener on Saturday against Westminster. This week will definitely be fun and exciting for the team. That’s all for the month of November. I will catch up with y’all in December when our team will really be put to the test with games against NEPSAC teams like Avon Old Farms, Canterbury, Blair, Kimball Union, and Northfield Mount Hermon.
