Springfield Central hasn't lost to a Massachusetts opponent in 24 games. The Golden Eagles wrapped up a state title over Brockton last March and now sit atop the ESPNBoston.com preseason state poll.
The Golden Eagles lost four starters from last season, but return Kamari Robinson and Cornelius Tyson, who had a game-high 16 points in the state title win over the Boxers. Central also adds 6-foot-8 sophomore transfer, Chris Baldwin to an impressive frontline.
Central leads a deep field of contenders for the state title this season, as Central Catholic led by junior sharpshooter Tyler Nelson return a lot of talent from a season ago. Central Catholic comes in a No. 2, followed by No. 3 B.C. High led by senior guard Jameilen Jones. New Mission headlines the Division II at No.4, with Central Mass. favorite, St. John's (Shrewsbury), who scrimmaged Central on Thursday, gained experience after making last season's state semifinals.
