HOLYOKE, Mass. -- St. Joseph Central (Mass.) may have come up short in a 64-48 loss on Day 3 of the BasketBull Hoops Fest last week against Holy Cross (N.Y.) but they definitely have some talent.
Senior guards Taverick Roberson and Michael Carpenter are both looking to go prep following their careers with the Crusaders.
They both are considering very similar schools. St. Thomas More, Suffield Academy, Cushing Academy, Avon Old Farms, and Wilbraham & Monson are all schools in the mix for Roberson and Carpenter. The duo hope the year of prep eventually will eventually increase their exposure
Roberson and Carpenter both provided a spark for the Crusaders over the last few seasons, including helping St. Joseph making the Division III state finals last season, before falling to Danvers.
In a loss against Holy Cross, as part of the Catholic School Showcase, Roberson had 15 and Carpenter added 20 respectively.
Roberson ran the offense the whole game. His strong leadership got his team into good shape on defense. He had quick moves to the basket that kept the Crusaders into the game at several points.
“We kept it close by playing hard, we just didn’t rebound well,” Roberson said.
Carpenter cut the game really close at time, with his consecutive shots from behind the arc. Carpenter hit a trio of three's in a row to get his team within two. He had four three balls in all, and made big plays when his team needed him to.
“We really need to box out more and allow ourselves to create more shots,” said Carpenter.
Both Roberson and Carpenter can add to their exposure later in January as St. Joseph takes on Hartford power, Capital Prep - led by USC-commit Kahlil Dukes - as part of Day 3 of the 2013 Hoophall Classic.
